Fruit of the Spirit

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are…

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. Galatians 5: 19, 22, 23 (KJV)

These virtues are characterized as fruit in contrast to works. Only the Spirit of God can produce them, and not our own efforts.

Note that in verse 19 concerning the works of the flesh are plural, but the fruit of the Spirit is one and indivisible. When the spirit fully controls one’s life, He produces all of
these graces.

The first three; love, joy and peace concern our attitude towards God.

The second three; longsuffering, gentleness and goodness, deals with our social relationships. And the last three; faith, meekness and temperance describes principles that guild our conduct.

Lord, help us to remember these qualities in our walk with You and include them in all areas of life given to us. Amen.
