SACRED SIX: COMPASSION MESSAGE
“Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”
Romans 12:12 NIV
In my daughter’s first grade class there is a little boy confined to a wheelchair. When I read today’s Verse I thought of him and others I know who for the rest of their lives will never have full body capabilities like me. How can one possibly remain patient in their affliction when it’s never ending?
I’ve had one of those weeks where I just don’t feel good at all. I’m tired, grumpy, and small problems have turned into mountains to climb in my mind where I’ve had zero patience. I’ve complained, cried, and wanted so badly just to stay in bed today.
Don’t you just love how the Lord works? HE sent me this verse planting images in my head of my daughter’s classmate zooming down the hallways of our school in his motorized wheelchair. When the hallways are cleared he likes to push his controls forward and drive as if it were a race car in the Indy 500. Rumor has it….he’s kept a secret from his classmates and is going to perform the popular kid dance, “Whip and Nae-Nae” during our weekly brain break today. Of course he’ll have to have someone lift him from the chair and place a walker in front of him to do so.
I love our relationship. You know exactly what I need to hear to get me going. I’ll get out of bed today with a determination and perspective I haven’t had all week. I will be more joyful, hopeful, and patient. I will pray for others who live with lifetime physical afflictions and be grateful when both my feet hit the floor this morning. You are my Rock! Amen.
God has been there all week ready to listen but I’ve chosen to wallow instead of talking to HIM about it. I’m grateful HE grabs my attention through HIS word!
What has HE been after you about this week? HE’ll speak to you just as HE did me this morning either through HIS word or through circumstances. All we have to do is slow down, be patient, open our eyes, and ears and be willing to accept what HE’s saying to us.
By HIS merciful hand,
