New Start

2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come.  The old has gone, the new is here!

I just love New Years.  There’s just something about a clean slate.  A brand new start.  A “do over”.  Somehow the time frame between 11:59 pm on Dec 31st and 12:00 on Jan 1st has always held a

special fascination as I feel the matter of a mere minute has the power to change my resolve for the better immediately.  Many would argue there is nothing magical about that short window of time,

and that you go into the new year just as you finished the old one.  But for me, it holds the potential to put a full 365 days of junk behind me boldly declaring, “The old has gone, the new is here”.

This is an exciting verse to use frequently in our arsenal.  Who doesn’t need a fresh start?  God’s mercies are new every morning, and what an amazing gift that we get this “do over” not only every year but every day!  I love the idea of waking up every morning and shaking off the dust from yesterday.  I’ve learned that if I arise for the day feeling any residue in my spirit, I pay no mind to any negativity but quickly decree the Word of God.   “Lord, Your mercies are new for me today, and I take hold of this powerful promise.  I am not yesterday’s mistakes and will not carry forward any failures into this brand new day of life.”

Father, You are so good to us as you give us the opportunity for renewal every morning.  Your mercies are endless, and we thank you for your immense patience in this muck mire of life.  May we dump our baggage from yesteryear and yesterday with a quickness and grab hold of your promise of newness for this beautiful day and new year!  Amen
