Today, Signature HealthCARE (SHC) celebrates the one-year anniversary of a landmark in the evolution of the company.
Exactly one year ago, on Oct. 11, 2010, SHC hosted a grand opening event to celebrate the relocation of Signature’s home office from Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. to Louisville. A number of dignitaries attended the event, including U.S. Congressman John Yarmuth and Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear.
“Kentucky is an ideal location for headquarter operations and the addition of Signature HealthCARE further demonstrates our ability to attract the best,” Gov. Beshear then said. “Our ongoing partnership with Mayor Abramson and Greater Louisville Inc. continues to cultivate a business climate where economic development opportunities can become a reality.”
Nashville was also being considered for the relocation, but Signature President and CEO Joe Steier outlined some of the reasons that Louisville was the top choice.
“After just six short weeks in Louisville, the city has shown us a great quality-of-life environment for our families, rich university partnerships and an amazing talent pool to foster aggressive growth,” he said. “We feel that our founding three pillars of spirituality, learning and intrapreneurship will thrive in this booming city. Our team is truly excited to call Louisville our permanent home.”
The move drew attention to Louisville’s position as an aging-care hub, with more than 4,000 industry professionals producing over $28 billion in revenue. Ten of the top 25 largest employers in the Louisville Metro area are health-related businesses.
The Louisville Metro Council, then-Jeffersontown Mayor Clay Foreman and then-Louisville Mayor Jerry Abramson each proclaimed Oct. 11 as Signature HealthCARE Day.
“We welcome Signature HealthCARE to its new corporate home here in Louisville,” Abramson said. “This relocation helps solidify our city’s growing reputation as a national center for senior health care companies.”
Other highlights during the grand opening event included Dianne Timmering’s reading of a poem, “Our Town,” written by Signature President and CEO Joe Steier. To view footage of the event, visit Signature’s YouTube channel. To read Joe’s poem, see below.
