Positive Communication

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, only that which is good for the use of building  (others) up, that it may minister grace unto those who hear.”  Ephesians 4:29

I had an awesome opportunity last week to attend a conference. In this conference we were discussing the subject of Positive v/s Negative Communication. Here are a few nuggets of wisdom from that conversation:

The question “Why?”  can be a negative question at times that puts others on the defense.

Ex: “Why aren’t we doing this?” – Negative Communication

The question “How?” can be a positive question at times that invites a solution.

Ex: “How can we do this?” – Positive Communication

The question “What?” can also be a positive question that invites partnership and teamwork.

Ex: “What is our vision in this area?” – Positive Communication

Heavenly Father, help us today to have a positive impact in the positions that you have graciously given. Help us to choose our words and responses (to others words/ or lack of) very carefully. When we react too quickly with our mouth in a negative way, may we ask for forgiveness.  And Lord, may we give forgiveness when others spew negativity on us. Help us this day to have a deeper understanding of Your unconditional love, and to share that divine positive attribute with those around us, as Your Holy Spirit fills our hearts and flows through us.  In your Holy Name, Amen.
