“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9
There is a story told about a boy who was walking home when he saw a sign taped on a neighbor’s window saying “Puppies for Sale.” He went to the door and rang the bell. A man answered the door. “How much are the puppies?” the boy asked. When told the price, the boy’s face fell for he didn’t have that kind of money. “Can I see them?” he asked, hoping he could work it out somehow. “Sure, they’re around back in the kennel.”
When they got there, the boy noticed one of the puppies was limping. Suddenly, he got all excited, and said, “Can I have that one, mister? I’ll pay you all I have now and five dollars a week until I’ve paid it all.” “Why that one?” the man said, “I’ve had him looked at by a vet, and he has a bad hip. He’ll never walk just right.” At this, the boy silently pulled up one pant leg, revealing a metal brace on his knee he’d worn all his life. “I figure that pup needs someone who understands him to get him through life.”
We too have been chosen by someone who understands us well . . . God. All of us have been chosen by Him to follow him, lean on him, be lifted up by him, and to serve him. When it comes to being chosen by God, we are always on the top of the list.
Let us pray: God we give you thanks this day and every day that you have chosen us to be your children. May we rejoice in this grand news and be willing to share it with others so that they too may feel your presence and welcome within your family.
